The House in the Clouds, Suffolk
“A wonderful stay in a very unique and quirky property with amazing views of the surrounding mere, coastline and countryside. The kitchen had everything you could want and an extra fridge on the top floor was a plus. Two lounges were large and comfortable. The only issue our group had was that a couple of the beds were not very stable or comfortable.”
A truly unique place to stay, this property is one of England’s most famous follies, originally built as a water tower with a house below. The red tank room has been transformed into a massive galleried living room offering spectacular views of the sea, windmill, golf course, and Suffolk landscape. Set in a fantasy village, the property boasts an acre of garden with facilities for tennis, boules, and barbecues. Sea swimming is just a 10-minute walk away, and boating on the Meare is available from Easter to September, only a 5-minute walk from the house. With easy car access to Stansted Airport, 75 miles away, the top room provides breath taking views of the Suffolk coast and countryside. The accommodation below, reminiscent of a cottage, is flooded with light from corner windows overlooking the scenic surroundings. The house is adorned with art and objects collected by the family over the last 44 years, offering an eclectic yet luxurious and comfortable setting. Guests will have access to the entire house and garden. Thorpeness is conveniently accessible from Stansted Airport, which is about an hour and three-quarters drive away.
